Originally from Illinois, Shelley lived and worked in numerous states and countries before settling in Naples in 2010. Like many of us, she has had an up close and personal experience with Alzheimer’s as a family caregiver for her mother-in-law who suffered from the disease. Shelley witnessed the countless ways a vulnerable person could be exploited. Without the intervention of family members, her mother-in-law would have easily lost her life’s savings to fake charities and cyber thieves.
Inspired to take action, Shelley founded Fiduciary Associates in 2016 and, with her former colleague and like-minded friend, Linda Flores, Senior Advocacy Group in 2020. In addition to her family caregiver experience, Shelley is a Trust and Estates attorney and former Corporate Trustee, and has the knowledge and expertise to help families protect their vulnerable loved ones. By serving as Independent Trustee or Agent under a Power of Attorney, either alone or with a family member, she works with the family’s other trusted advisors to provide the financial protection and holistic lifecare management needed to prevent or mitigate exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
Shelley speaks and writes frequently on Trust and Estates Administration, Powers of Representation, and Planning for Incapacity. She is on the Executive Committee of the Professional Fiduciary Council of Florida, and served on the STEP Global Mental Capacity and Digital Assets Steering Committees.
Shelley is a backstage volunteer at The Naples Players, and also enjoys hiking, reading and the New York Times crossword puzzle. She is also a doting grandmother to granddaughter, Emma Rose, and spends as much time as she can in the Burlington, Vermont area to be on call for babysitting duty!
